Rating: 9/10 - Would Most Certainly Make Again
I took off a point for being a bit spicy for most folks.
Difficulty: Low
Price: Low-Medium (pork is relatively inexpensive but the spices can be pricey)
Serves: 7-8
Total Time: 7hrs 45 minute
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 7 hrs 30 minutes
Make Again? Most certainly!

I got this recipe from 100daysofrealfood.com and the full recipe is here:

I have "Dan-ed Up" the recipe to include some tastier ingredients, but the recipe is very much the same.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons paprika
- 2 tablespoons iodized salt
- 2 teaspoons fresh-ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (fresher is spicier; cut back for a less-daring crowd)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, peeled and cut in half
- 3 to 3 ½ pounds pork shoulder (I bought a bone-in shoulder, about 8 lbs a piece, and cut them in half)
For the Sandwich:
- French Rolls - 8
- Parmesan Cheese - Shredded
- Banana Peppers
- Napkins
Instructions
- In a medium size mixing bowl, mix spices together.
- Pour in the honey, vinegar, and olive oil and stir to form a paste. Be patient here; it took about 5 minutes of stirring before I got a good consistent paste.
- Skin and cut an onion in half. Place the halves face down in the bottom of the slow cooker. Place both pieces of pork on top of the onions. Pour the honey paste over all sides of the pork pieces. It’s okay if some of it (or a lot of it) just drips down to the bottom.
- Turn the slow cooker on to low and cook for 7 to 8 hours or until the meat is tender enough to be easily shredded with a fork.
Serving
Once the pork is cooked, remove excess fat and pull the pork with forks.
Constructing the sandwich is easy:
- Cut a French-Roll almost in half (Subway style)
- Place provolone cheese in the sandwich
- Add a hunk of pulled pork (this melts the cheese)
- Top with Parmesan cheese
- Eat with Banana Peppers
- Enjoy!
Over the weekend I made this recipe and quadrupled it to serve 30 college students and was quite the crowd-pleaser.
